‘Peaky Blinders’ to Air Feature-Length Finale as ‘Dry Run’ for Film Spinoff
The finale of “Peaky Blinders” will be a feature-length episode that builds expectations for an upcoming franchise film, director Anthony Byrne says.

Byrne told RadioTimes.com the Season 6 send-off has a run time of 81 minutes.

“It’s such a Peaky thing to do for the last hurrah. It’s the 10:22 news for one night only,” Byrne said. “It feels very, very different to the rest of the season. It feels very, very different to anything we’ve done before. It’s very epic in scope. It feels like a film – it’s a kind of dry run for the feature film.”

Show creator Steven Knight also told RadioTimes.com that the upcoming movie will be an “untold story that happened in the Second World War, which the Peakys are going to be involved in”.

Byrne has previously responded to criticism about the change in the show’s tone, especially for the last season.

‘Topside’ Review: A Mother-Daughter Drama Set in a New York You Haven’t Seen

‘Topside’ Review: A Mother-Daughter Drama Set in a New York You Haven’t Seen
It’s rare to be able to say that a movie shows a side of New York you’ve never seen before, but “Topside” does just that. A subterranean drama whose first act is set below the city, where a downtrodden community has made a home of long-abandoned subway tunnels, this quietly affecting indie film from first-time helmers Logan George and Celine Held (who also stars) resides somewhere between “Dark Days” and “Leave No Trace” without feeling as familiar as its premise might suggest. That’s thanks not only to Held, who pulls double duty both in front of and behind the camera, but also to a moving performance by newcomer Zhalia Farmer that’s reminiscent of Quevanzané Wallis in “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”

“Stars don’t come down this far,” Nikki (Held) tells her five-year-old daughter Little (Farmer) one night in their makeshift hovel. They’re eating peanut butter straight from the jar,

Kimmel Compares Volodymyr Zelensky-Inspired Online Merch to Putin’s (Video)
On Thursday’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Kimmel took some time in his monologue off by noting how, uh, probably not helpful it is that people have turned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into a fashion icon. You know, because the context here is that his country has been brutalized by the unprovoked Russian invasion.

He also compared the merch inspired by Zelensky to the Putin-themed stuff you can buy, and the Russian leader came out looking about as weird and bad as he normally does.

“In Ukraine, President Zelensky, not only has his courage inspired people all around the world, so has his fashion sense. Sales of this Zelensky-style green shirt have skyrocketed over the past month,” Kimmel said.

“Is it bad that we see a leader in a bunker trying to get his nation out of a war and think, ‘I like that look. I would like to have that,

Chinese Animation Studio Says It Is Victim of Massive $234 Million Fraud

Chinese Animation Studio Says It Is Victim of Massive $234 Million Fraud
A Chinese visual effects and animation studio filed a lawsuit Thursday alleging that it is the victim of two American swindlers who forged documents, impersonated the CEO, and conned investors out of $234 million.

Base FX, headquartered in Beijing, states that it was duped into trusting the two men — Remington Chase and Kevin Robl — over the course of several years, in which they engaged in several financing arrangements and a joint venture in Malaysia.

However, over the last year and a half, the company has discovered that the men were using the relationship as a lure for investors, who were deceived into signing over $234 million, in what they thought were loans and investments in the company and its projects. Base FX alleges that Chase and Robl forged the signature of the company’s CEO on investment documents, created fake entities and bank accounts, had someone pretend to be the CEO in calls with investors,

How the Oscars Incorporated 90,000 Swarovski Crystals Into the Ceremony’s Stage Design

How the Oscars Incorporated 90,000 Swarovski Crystals Into the Ceremony’s Stage Design
The 94th Academy Awards is returning to the Dolby Theatre this Sunday, and Swarovski has teamed up with Emmy-award creative director and designer David Korins to provide 90,000 Swarovski Crystals for the stage design.

Perhaps the most dazzling aspect to Korins’ staging is the crystal curtain, which is made from Swarovski Crystals. “The beautiful thing about working with Swarovski Crystals is that you use them just the way they are. They shine and sparkle the way you want them to,” Korins tells Variety. “With Swarovski Crystals, there’s no need for scenic enhancements, what you want to do is accentuate what they are already meant to do and that is capture and reflect light beautifully.”

Korins’ stage design will also feature a dome, two floating orbs illuminated with strands of Swarovski Crystals and a swirling design. Producers Will Packer and Shayla Cowan wanted a design that felt modern and fun.

Why Cinematography Is Oscars’ Biggest Boys Club, With Only 2 Female Nominees in 94 Years

Why Cinematography Is Oscars’ Biggest Boys Club, With Only 2 Female Nominees in 94 Years
In the 94-year history of the Oscars, there is only one category, besides Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, that has never been won by a woman. That would be Best Cinematography, which honors a movie’s lighting, framing and camerawork.

Those are hardly gender-specific achievements, though the Oscars, for better or worse, are a reflection of the opportunities offered in the film industry. And as such, there are deep institutional reasons why this specific category has such a poor track record for women.

The trivia stat could change on Sunday night. Ari Wegner, the Australian cinematographer of Jane Campion’s nomination-leader “The Power of the Dog,” is nominated for her thoughtful, intuitive work on the film. TheWrap’s Steve Pond predicts that Wegner will take home the trophy, giving her the edge over “Dune” Dp Greig Fraser (the cinematographer of Campion’s previous movie “Bright Star”), who has scored the BAFTA and ASC precursors.
